It was published a few weeks before we left for Yellowstone and I wish I had it from the beginning of my planning. This was my first trip to Yellowstone and there was so much that I needed to learn about. Wow!

Julia included the Grand Prismatic Overlook trail as a ‘must see’ in the guidebook. On our previous trips to Yellowstone, we had always wanted to be able to view Grand Prismatic from above, and never knew that the overlook trail existed because it is part of the Fairy Falls trail! I am limited in my ability to hike, but we did it, and it was AMAZING!! It was the highlight of our trip. Julia has done a great job with highlighting different itineraries depending on the number of days in a visit, and also includes helpful information for people like me that have physical limitations.

I grew up visiting this park and usually visit at least 2-3 times per year for the last 20 years. Julia has well-planned itineraries and good descriptions of all the things and places you need to see during your visit to the park. She has taken the time to document everything the park has to offer. I am pleased with the content but disappointed it did not give any surprises to a long-term visitor. I will suggest this guide to new visitors who need some help in planning their trip.

Hi Anthony! I’d recommend spending your time in Yosemite Valley and heading up to Tioga Pass Road if you have time. Tioga Pass Road is only open in the summer though.

Given that the road to Glacier Point is closed for 2022, do you have any alternative thoughts on how to spend a day?

We’re flying directly to Moab and staying with our son and family who live and work there. We have about 4 days, (3 nights) for a road trip in March. We’ve explored a lot of Canyonlands and Arches and would like to start in some new territory beyond Hanksville, UT. What are your suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Doug

Julia,
I have friends going to Glacier May 1st for a couple of days. How far can the drive west past Apgar? Could they drive to Polebridge at that time? Any suggestions for hikes? Thanks

Comment on Ultimate Yellowstone Itinerary: How to Spend 1 to 5 Days by Julia Jennings https://www.wellplannedjourney.com/yellowstone-itinerary/#comment-555 Wed, 09 Feb 2022 04:23:39 +0000 https://www.wellplannedjourney.com/?p=18674#comment-555 In reply to Ashley Motha.

Hi Ashley, for the 3 day itinerary, here’s what I’d recommend for dining:
Day 1: Lunch and dinner at Old Faithful Inn or Old Faithful Lodge (several restaurants/delis in the Old Faithful lodging area)
Day 2: Lunch at Canyon Village and dinner at Lake Village or Grant Village
Day 3: Lunch in Mammoth, Pack or pick up to-go for dinner in Lamar Valley

Here’s more info on Yellowstone dining.

All the trails on the 3-day itinerary are fairly easy, so depending on your parents activity level, they may be okay. The most difficult is Grand Prismatic Overlook (~2 miles). If that is too much for them, they could do the Grand Prismatic Spring boardwalk instead. Upper Geyser Basin on Day 1 is long, but flat and mostly paved. They could do as much or as little of that trail as they’d like. In Norris Geyser Basin on Day 3, you can just stick to the Porcelain Basin loop to shorten the distance.
