Julia,
I have friends going to Glacier May 1st for a couple of days. How far can the drive west past Apgar? Could they drive to Polebridge at that time? Any suggestions for hikes? Thanks

Hi Evan, it looks like Many Glacier Campground will be open until September 13 this year, but reservations are only available through September 4th. After that, it will be FCFS for the next week until closing. You can see the status of the campground here and get more details later this year once the campground reopens for the summer: https://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/reservation-campgrounds.htm

I am looking to plan a glacier trip for mid-September this year. We will be camping with a smaller trailer camper. I was thinking Many Glacier Campground should be our preferred campground due to proximity of hikes to the campground, and that is how we intend to spend most of our time there (although the river trips looks pretty fun too…).
While looking at the reservation calendar for Many Glacier Campground on reservation.gov site, it looks like it won’t take reservations past September 5th, as it says out of season. (I know it won’t take any reservations more than 6 months out, but September 5th says out of season instead of not released like the dates prior). So my question is, does the campground actually shut down on September 4th, or does the full campground switch to FCFS on that date, but it stays open for campers?
If the latter – are there campgrounds that do remain open through September?
Thank you!

Taking a last minute trip to glacier the first week of October 2021- lol next week!
I know it is risky with the weather. Plan to do going to the sun road and then staying in East Glacier for the night – heading back the next morning. Can you suggest a decent place to stay that will be open that time of year? And also, any hot springs we can dip in along the trip that is a moderate/easy hike to get to?

This is just my opinion having just driven the route several times over the last week or so: adding Haystack Creek/Bird Woman Falls and Lunch Creek to their respective pull-out descriptors could help with clarity. Also, in The Loop descriptor you state that Heavens Peak (8848) is the highest in the Park; actually Mt. Cleveland is at 10,466 ft. Thanks for your labor of love!

Hi Katie! The amount that is open in June changes every year, but you should be able to at least get to Avalanche Lake by that time and explore the western part of the park.

I have never been to Glacier NP before but we will be there June 6th-8th next year. I know GTTS road won’t be open fully but do you know how much would be open around that time? We are staying in Apgar so we would be on the west end.

Hi Kathryn! You’re correct – after 9/17 the entire Many Glacier area will be closed for the season. They are closing it early this year for road construction before winter.
