Hi Divya, here’s some responses to your questions!

1. I think you could easily base your time in both Zion + Bryce Canyon in Springdale, especially if you plan to spend most of your time in Zion and only make a day trip to Bryce. You could leave Springdale one morning and make a day trip to Bryce Canyon (only about 2 hours away).
2. Most national parks do not allow dogs on hiking trails. You could take your dog in parking lots and campgrounds (paved surfaces are usually okay), but not on hiking trails. One exception is the Pa’rus Trail in Zion. I’d recommend trying to put your dog in daycare on the days you plan to hike. I’ve heard good things about Doggy Dude Ranch near Zion: https://www.doggyduderanch.com/
3. March is definitely doable for hikes. It will be a little cold and some of the trails may be muddy, but that shouldn’t stop you from hiking!
4. Arches is a decent drive from Bryce Canyon (about 4 hours). Depending on where you’re coming from in Arizona, it could add a significant distance. If you do plan to visit Arches, I’d recommend spending at least 2 days in the Moab area (and see Canyonlands too!) to make the drive worth it.

Hope that helps!

1. We are planning to drive from AZ *home for us to Page, stop the night and then drive to Springdale. We would like to rent a home there. Would you recommend we stay there for access to both Bryce or Zion? We would like to get more hiking done, so probably will end up doing more of Zion.
2. We would like to take our 2 year old mid *25lbs goldendoodle. Are the parks deemed safe for dogs? IF not, is it possible to find someone to watch him for the couple of days we are out hiking?
3. We have a 2 week break in March, towards the 3rd week. I know you mentioned APril – October, but is March doable for some hikes?
4. We were also trying to include Arches on the trip. Is that something you would recommend on our way back?
Thanks so much!

We would be more interested in driving the scenic route rather than hiking. 1 mile hikes would be OK. We plan on spending 4 days in the parks. Is this doable?

Hi Maureen! A van can be a great way to see the parks if you plan on staying in a campground. Whether or not it’s the best option for you will depend on your ability to get campsites close to the park and the type of amenities you’re looking for. I highly recommend checking out Outdoorsy for van rentals if you choose to go that route!

Hi Claudia! I’d recommend spending two nights in Zion before heading back to Vegas.

I wanted your opinion about my schedule.
Arrive Vegas, stay over night. Drive to Zion next morning and then drive to Bryce.
Last night in Vegas and head home. Which park should we stay two nights in?
Zion or Bryce or should we add another stop for over night?
Thanks so much for your advice.

Claudia

Going to Zion and Bryce Canyon end of August and would be interested to see your itinerary. Would you recommend renting a van?

Hi Leslie! I definitely agree – there’s so much to do in Utah and Arizona that you could spend several weeks there! I have a longer itinerary for all 5 Utah parks that is just over a week too that I’d recommend 🙂

Although after a half day of slogging through the Zion Narrows, you won’t feel like hiking much more and will be tired by the time you reach Bryce. We did the parks in 2 separate trips: Las Vegas to Zion, to Page, AZ, to Grand Canyon, to Sedona and back to Los Angeles. Second trip: LA to Kanab, to North Rim Grand Canyon, to Bryce, then Escalante, and back to LA. So much more to see in Utah, you really need at least a week to include Arches and Canyonlands.
